Nu York, New York

On November 12, Dallin and I took a trip to New York. Dallin was going anyway for Nu Skin’s annual Investor/Analyst Day on November 16, and we decided to make a trip of it. We did the same thing last year, except the difference this time was that my parents came with us! :) It was my mom’s first time ever in New York, and my dad’s first time really being a tourist in New York, so it was really fun.

We did a ton of classic, New York tourist stuff: hung out in Times Square (a LOT!), saw a bunch of Broadway shows (Phantom of the Opera, Mary Poppins, and Addams Family), walked through Central Park, got some frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity 3, went shopping down 5th Avenue, went to the Jimmy Fallon show (my parents weren’t too excited going into it, but we all thought it was a blast – and we got on tv!), went shopping (and haggling – my favorite!) in Chinatown and Canal Street, saw the Statue of Liberty, walked through a Catholic cathedral, visited the Occupy Wall Street protest in Zucatti Park (Dallin and I walked right through the middle of it – kind of cool, but as Dallin said, definitely a bunch of “dead beats”), stayed at the Waldorf Astoria hotel, got on the Today! Show at 30 Rock, ate at a ton of different places, walked through the financial district (saw the Wall Street bull, New York Stock Exchange, etc.), and a ton of other cool stuff. We also visited the 9/11 Memorial Site, and it was a pretty cool/sobering experience. While we were out there, we also went to church in downtown Manhattan (it was the Primary program, so perfect timing!), and we also went to the Manhattan New York Temple to do sealings.

It was an awesome trip, and we loved having my parents there to share it with us. The nice thing about having my mom with us was it helped us remember how cool New York is to see for your first time, so it made the whole trip that much better! And once again, thanks to Nu Skin for making it all possible. :)

Fall Happenings

Dallin and I have been trying to think of some fun fall things to do, so last Sunday we drove up the canyon and went for a small hike to see all the beautiful colors up close. Dallin had so much fun taking tons of pictures . . . I think he found a new hobby, or at least rediscovered an old one. :)

We watched Brynlee and Haley one night and had a little Halloween Date with them. We ate soup, painted rocks to look like some Halloween creatures, and watched a scary movie (Ichabod Crane and the Legend of Sleepy Hollow – Dallin’s favorite). We always love watching our nieces/nephews whenever we can, and it was fun to do some Halloweeny stuff.

A few Fridays ago, we had an awesome Halloween party with some family and friends, with great food and fun games. We played the annual “Quarters” game (I think we’ve played it the last 3 years) – we played three rounds and Dallin was lucky to win 2 out of 3. The costumes were great and it’s always fun to see how creative people can be. The Boscos were nice enough to let me use one of Robbie’s old jerseys to wear so I could be a football player – way cool! I made my own shoulder pads and we found some baseball pants at D.I. for 3 bucks. Dallin got his costume from a BYU old stuff sale; they had tons of cheerleading outfits but only one old school, which Dallin looks great in. I keep telling him he missed his calling in High School, and I think he’d almost agree with me.  Halloween is probably Dallin’s favorite holiday, and I think this year’s was a good one. Happy Halloween!

BYU Football – what else? :)

I know it has been forever since I lasted blogged, but with mid-terms just ended and me now having a bit of a break I thought I should update before it was too late. As always, a lot has happened since our last post so this post is mostly pictures (the best kind of post!).
Fall is easily my favorite time of the year. I love the cool weather, watching the leaves change, and of course it’s the start of BYU football. Dallin and I got season tickets this year (Dallin says we’re “mini-boosters”) with Dallin’s brother and his wife (Ryan and Jess). It has been so much fun going and watching the games. We’ve even made friends with the couple that sits right behind us—Dallin gave him a hug and they jumped up and down together after “the tip” at the Utah State game. :) In the 5 years we’ve been together, we’ve only had one season of BYU football where we didn’t have season tickets (we still went to tons of games, but season tickets feel more official).

So, Dallin has set a new goal that he wants to go to at least one away game a season. He was lucky enough to talk my dad, brother (Ryan), and brother-in-law (Russ) into going to the BYU vs Oregon State football game a couple weeks ago. They left early Friday morning and got back Sunday. They ate at VooDoo doughnuts, saw the Occupy Portland protestors, toured the Tillamook Cheese Factory, toured the Air Museum, visited the beach, and ate at a pub. From all the pictures and stories, it sounds like they had a great time. I was really sad (and a bit mad) I couldn’t go with them, but boys will be boys! Instead, all the girls hung out and went to Thanksgiving Point to CornBelly’s. It was fun watching the kids run around and play on the hay. The girls even entered the Pumpkin Princess Contest; they were the cutest little princesses I ever did see! :)

Dallin the Handyman

Last week, we took our white car in for emissions and safety inspection . . . and we failed. I was really bummed because they gave us long and EXPENSIVE list of things we needed to fix. Actually, only one thing was required for us to pass (replace a broken motor mount), but of course it was the most expensive – $240! To fix everything on the list would have cost us over $550! Well, our brother-in-law Russ knows a ton about cars so Dallin took the car over there on Saturday and they worked on it together for almost 5 hours. They fixed almost everything on the list (and did a few other things too) for a total of only $165! I guess they went and bought the new motor mount for $94 (and took about 20 minutes to replace the broken one), so we saved $146 just on that one thing alone! It was awesome of Russ to help, and Dallin thought he was so cool for getting all dirty/greasy and fixing the car. I was definitely proud of him for learning how to do that stuff, and especially for getting our car to pass inspection. :)

Demo Derby

On Saturday, Dallin and I went to the Demolition Derby in Spanish Fork with the Salmon family. We’ve never been to one before, and we both liked it even more than we expected. I took a ton of pictures because I thought everything was so cool. I was amazed at all of those crazy/daring people driving their cars so recklessly! Those guys are pretty amazing for totally destroying their cars, and then getting them ready for the next round in only an hour or so. It was tons of fun and I can’t wait to go again!

More summer fun . . . just in time

Dallin and I are trying to enjoy the final weeks of summer before I head back to school. But to be honest, I’m really excited to start back up again – I only have two semesters left!!! Anyway, a few weeks ago we went camping up at Bear Lake with my family. My parents, brother, and sister all have trailers, so it was just Dallin and me in a tent in the middle of them all. :) We used our air mattress and had like 8 blankets – it was actually really awesome! The funny thing is that we seemed to always have the best night sleep out of everyone . . . although it definitely helps not having any kids yet. Bear Lake was packed full of fun things. We got to go horseback riding up in the mountains, which was AWESOME! I was so excited to go; I have only been one other time. I had the biggest horse of our group (Zem) – I could barely get on it! It was my sister’s first time on a horse so it was fun watching her have a good time too. Our two nieces, Melanee (7) and Alyssa (5), each rode their own horse! They had so much fun and were sad to leave at the end. The guys went golfing and shooting while the girls got to hang out in the sun, play games, and read (we were all reading “The Help”). We went out to dinner one night, played in the water (I got dumped by my brother twice), did the new go carts slick track (Garden City), and cooked lots and lots of s’mores. Oh yeah – and Dallin brought a sick-looking fake rat and fake snake to scare people all week long. He got my mom really good with everyone’s help (and had his video camera set up; we’d post the video but I don’t want to embarrass her). It was a really fun trip and glad we had the chance to spend time with our family.
